Reading room named after Kazakh writer Abdizhamil Nurpeisov opens in Nur-Sultan

A reading room named after the People’s writer of Kazakhstan Abdizhamil Nurpeisov opened in the National Academic Library. In addition to books, it displays the personal belongings of the writer that tell about his life and rich creative heritage. The modernly equipped hall will become a comfortable place for holding literary evenings.

“We think that our readers who love Kazakh literature are also interested in the works of our writer Abdizhamil Nurpeisov as well as in how he lives. It is also possible to hold literary online conferences here, including those interesting for our youth. We expect that creative evenings and literary discussions will be held here for the younger generation,” said Zharkynbek Zhumadil, Staff Member of the National Academic Library of Kazakhstan.

The works of Abdizhamil Nurpeisov are highly appreciated among the Turkic peoples and recognized in Europe. His trilogy “The Blood and Sweat” was translated into more than 30 languages. A two-part film was shot based on this work. “The last duty” novel attracted the attention of the whole world as well. The wordsmith who will turn 97 this autumn is one of three Kazakh writers awarded the USSR State Prize.

“In 2019, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev awarded the writer the title of “Hero of Labour of Kazakhstan”. Of course, first of all, we wish him good health and creative inspiration. May he give us many more wonderful works in the future,” noted Aktoty Raimkulova, Kazakh Minister of Culture and Sports.

Abdizhamil Nurpeisov is not only an amazing writer, but also a veteran of the Second World War, as well as a translator. He translated into the Kazakh language the works of Anton Chekhov, Maxim Gorky, Nazim Hikmet, as well as the works of the world classics of the Spanish writer Alejandro Casona.
