Sharipa Urazbayeva from Kazakhstan receives Best Female Director Award at film festival in London

Kazakh film director Sharipa Urazbayeva received the Best Female Director award at the 22nd Rainbow Film Festival in London for the feature film “Mariam”. Previously, the movie has already brought its creators several significant international awards. According to the director, this trophy is particularly important for her. After all, recognizing her as the “Best Female Director” from Central Asia is worth a lot.

The film “Mariam” tells the story about a mother of four children, who was left alone for the winter in the steppe after the disappearance of her husband. Meruyert Sabussinova played the lead role in the film. The most interesting thing is that she is the prototype of the main character. It was her story that inspired the filmmaker.

The movie has already been screened at film festivals in Locarno, Toronto, Busan, as well as in Turkey and Spain. Now Sharipa Urazbayeva is finishing work on a new project and is preparing to present it for screening.
