Kazakh citizens to sign documents via biometric data

In the near future, obtaining and using an electronic digital signature (EDS) in Kazakhstan will become easier. This can be done through a cloud service using biometric data. In fact, the system itself will not be a filesystem, and the EDS will be stored on remote servers. Spokespeople for the Government for Citizens reported this at a press briefing. The project is scheduled to be implemented by the end of this year. The eGov mobile application has already launched authorization and registration via biometric data, experts say. Last year, about five million people received EDS in the country.

“People will be able to access their EDS using biometric identification and they will no longer have to carry their identity card, a USB flash drive or a computer in order to use the digital signature. As you know, people tend to lose memory sticks, and when that happens, they often come to our public service centers to update their EDS. As for a cloud-based digital signature, all of this will be stored in a remote server, and people with biometric identity verification will automatically have access to the EDS and sign documents,” said Suyenish Abdildin, First Deputy Chairperson of the ‘Government For Citizens’ State Corporation.
