President Tokayev speaks during meeting of Supreme Eurasian Economic Council

Kazakhstan, like the rest of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, calls for the creation of equal conditions for all market participants. However, trade barriers increased during the lockdown, noted President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev today at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council. The Head of State emphasized the need to solve this issue. He also expressed concern that trade barriers between the member countries will not disappear as economic activity recovers.

“These restrictions harm the development of trade and economic relations; limit the potential for growth and development of the union. The struggle of commissions with the barriers is ongoing. But it cannot be called really effective. This is the fight with the consequences of decisions at the national level. We believe that the ministries responsible for economic integration should express more proactive, so to speak, allied position. Express and defend the position at the stage of developing the relevant regulatory legal acts, by which these barriers and restrictions are introduced,” said the Head of State.

Also, President Tokayev highlighted the positive impact of the pandemic on the economy. It allowed the pharmaceutical industry, health services, bioengineering and digital technologies to develop more dynamically.
