EU supports political modernization in Kazakhstan

New ways of exporting Kazakh goods, oil and agricultural products to the European market were discussed at the 19th meeting of the Kazakhstan - EU  Cooperation Council in Luxembourg. The meeting participants also touched upon the issues of expanding partnership in such areas as energy, transport, infrastructure and digital technologies.

“At present, the development of transit transport capacity, which would connect the European Union not only with Kazakhstan and Central Asia, but also further with the Asian continent, is of particular importance.  New ways are therefore being sought to supply our oil and agricultural products to the European market,” said Mukhtar Tleuberdi, Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.

As European diplomats said, the EU welcomes the path of political reforms in Kazakhstan and the recent constitutional referendum.

“Kazakhstan plays a key role in the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and digital connectivity. We discussed respect for human rights and the importance of the role of civil society, as well as the investigation into the January events. Political reforms and the recent constitutional referendum demonstrate Kazakhstan's course towards openness and democracy. We support this path,” noted Catherine Colonna, French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
