Kazakhstan – Turkey: development of trade and economic cooperation

Kazakhstan and Turkey are set to expand flight geography between the two countries and increase the number of regular flights. Further development of trade and economic cooperation between the two states was discussed at the 12th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission chaired by Kazakh Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov and Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay. Also, the priority topics of the two sides included interaction in the transit and transport area, in the fields of industry, tourism, geology, healthcare and agro-industrial complex. Turkey is one of the highest priority economic and investment partners of Kazakhstan. Last year, mutual trade turnover grew by 33 percent and exceeded US$4.1 billion. In particular, exports from Kazakhstan to Turkey grew by almost 40 percent in 2021. To date, Turkish business is implementing investment projects worth US$5.5 billion in Kazakhstan.

“The trade between the two countries grew by 33 percent and amounted to US$4 billion in 2021. This is a very good indicator during the pandemic. However, we won’t stop there. The potential of both countries is even greater. Today we adopted a joint action plan consisting of 68 paragraphs. I am confident that the outcome of the talks will serve to strengthen our unity and the interests of our fraternal peoples at this difficult time,” Kazakh Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov said.
