Kazakh President K. Tokayev accepts government’s resignation

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree on Wednesday, accepting the government’s resignation, Akorda website reported. According to the decree, Alikhan Smailov was appointed interim prime minister. Government members will continue to fulfill their duties until the new government is formed.

“I accepted the resignation of the government tendered by Askar Mamin. Let me note that Askar Uzakbayevich headed the Cabinet of Ministers for about three years. Fulfilling his duties, he showed high responsibility, diligence, especially in the pandemic. I want to express my gratitude to him for that. I would also like to add that an experienced economist, qualified head Smailov Alikhan Askhanovich was appointed interim prime minister,” the president said.

In addition, according to Akorda website, Erlan Karin, who previously held the position of aide to the president, was appointed Secretary of State of Kazakhstan. He replaced Krymbek Kusherbayev in this post.
