Kazakhstan and Switzerland sign memorandum of cooperation

The delegation of the Library of the First President of Kazakhstan met with the leadership of the Geneva Center for Security Policy and the Library and Archives of the UN Office in Geneva. During the event, the parties signed a memorandum of cooperation on the implementation of joint projects on global and regional security, as well as a special letter of intent. It concerns partnership in the study of multilateral, international relations and values in the archival and historical spheres, in the study of the work of the UN, as well as the historical heritage of Kazakhstan. The event coincided with the 30th anniversary of the closure of Semipalatinsk nuclear test site.

“The UN Library is a unique institution that dates back to the period of the League of Nations and contains a great number of archival documents that reflect the work of the UN in the field of countering nuclear weapons. For Kazakhstan and, in particular, for the Library of the First President of Kazakhstan, this is also the most important direction since it is part of the historical heritage of the First President. The UN Library and the Library of the First President have many joint interests in implementing joint projects, exchanging information, including books, publications, archival documents,” said Bakytzhan Temirbolat, Director of the Library of the First President.

“Kazakhstan is a proud member of the United Nations, we all know that. As the director of your library said and also the ambassador of Kazakhstan to the United Nations said it is the country that attached importance to disarmament, nuclear disarmament in particular, and international cooperation, multilateralism.  That is why we appreciate this meeting here today. There is also a curious strong link between Kazakhstan and the United Nations in Geneva. Because the president of Kazakhstan Tokayev was the director general of the United  Nations here in Geneva and was under-secretary general of the United Nations. I personally served under him. I know him personally. And I admire for what he has done here in the UN,” added Francesco Pisano, Director of the  Library and Archives at United Nations Geneva.
