Nuclear test site in Semei now available online

It is now possible to visit the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site online. An interactive map of nuclear test sites was created in the museum at the Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology (IRSE) of the National Nuclear Center. It contains unique historical data on nuclear tests on the planet and is based on research by the institute’s scientists. It is possible to virtually visit the Moscow Metro and other strategic objects using 3D glasses. So far, the development is available only for the museum visitors, but soon it will be possible to use the service on the official website in an updated format.

“The interactive map collected a large amount of cartographic material. Not every person can visit the territory of the Semipalatinsk Test Site and see all the objects of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site. The map has 3D tours, where it is possible to see the experimental ground, the test site and the Atomic Lake test site,” said Aisulu Omarkhanova, Head of Information Group at the training and information center.
