Experts discuss COVID-19 vaccines for kids

Children will soon be vaccinated against coronavirus too. Health experts all over the world are now actively studying the issue. Spokesperson for the Scientific Center for Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery Aigul Bazarbayeva stated this in an interview with Qazaq TV. To date, several foreign countries are successfully vaccinating adolescents over 16 years old, she said. It is possible that in the future this experience may be applied in Kazakhstan. Currently, only the citizens over the age of 18 are eligible for vaccination in the country.

“Before starting the vaccination of children, it is necessary to conduct clinical trials to assess safety and effectiveness of vaccines. If vaccines for children are proven safe and approved by regulatory authorities, then such vaccination is possible. The United States has already lowered the age limit to 16 years for those wishing to get vaccinated. And they are currently in the process of approving the vaccine use for 12- to 15-year-olds. The European Union is also in the process of approving a vaccine for adolescents aged 12 to 15 years,” Bazarbayeva said.
