COVID-19 vaccination drive in Kazakhstan

Kazakh residents were told about the ways they can make an appointment online to get COVID-19 vaccine. One of them is through the EGOV portal, the second is - the Call Centers. According to Head of Public Health Department of Nur-Sultan Timur Muratov, all necessary contacts are listed on the organization’s website.

“In order to ensure the availability of this service to the population, we are working with the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control to deploy vaccination points in the shopping and entertainment centers of the city. Preparations are underway to vaccinate the population, taking into account all sanitary and epidemiological requirements. Two groups will be on duty in the facilities before the launch time, and another two after. The group consists of doctors and nurses,” said Timur Muratov, Head of Public Health Department, Nur-Sultan city.

The epidemiological situation in Nur-Sultan remains unstable. The Kazakh capital still remains in a high-risk ‘red’ zone in terms of virus spread. On average, the city reports about 430 new positive cases of infection per day. This is twice as much as in July last year. Mass vaccination drive is planned to immunize 60 percent of the city’s population.

“Vaccination of the population is now an important stage in the fight against coronavirus. I would like to point out that vaccination is a good preventive measure and its benefits are indeed significant. In order to develop herd immunity, it is planned to vaccinate more than 600,000 people or 60 percent of the city’s population. To date, over 22,500 city residents have received the coronavirus vaccine in the capital. No serious reactions to vaccination have been reported. The vaccine appointments started this week,” said Timur Muratov, Head of Public Health Department, Nur-Sultan city.

The most tense situation in terms of the spread of COVID-19 is observed in the city of Almaty. Mass immunization activities are being intensified there. More than 68,000 doses of the vaccine have been delivered there since the beginning of the vaccination drive. Overall, 49,160 city residents have already been vaccinated against the dangerous virus.

“To date, there are more than two million residents in Almaty city. It is planned to vaccinate at least one million people there. At the first stage, the required number of vaccination rooms was calculated. At the beginning of February, when we first started vaccination, there were only 35 vaccination administration points. Currently, there are 182 such points,” said Nariman Tabynbayev, Head of Public Health Department, Almaty city.
