World Cancer Day

The World Cancer Day is marked on February 4. To date, cancer is the second leading cause of death globally. According to data from the World Health Organization, one in five people on the planet are diagnosed with cancer. About 70 percent of deaths occur in low and middle-income countries.

Experts say that the disease has become increasingly common among children and adolescents. In Kazakhstan, about 36,000 new cases are reported each year, including 14,000 fatalities. Last year alone, more than 32,000 new cases of cancer were registered in the country. Overall, 190,000 Kazakh residents were diagnosed with cancer. In order to combat the disease, Kazakhstan has introduced nationwide screening programs for the early detection of cervical, breast and colorectal cancer. Diagnosis and treatment of cancer is included in the guaranteed volume of free medical care.
