Coronavirus vaccination of pregnant women

Coronavirus vaccination of pregnant women

Coronavirus vaccination reduces the risk of serious complications and even deaths of pregnant women by 70 percent, said scientist from Kazakhstan Vyacheslav Lokshin. He noted that the U.S., UK, Israel and Belgium have already concluded that the vaccine for expectant mothers is not just harmless, but even necessary. The vaccination will help protect both the mother and the child, he said.

“Unfortunately, pregnant women have a severe course of coronavirus, especially those with concomitant diseases. Therefore, vaccination of pregnant women is the only way that can surely protect from the risk of infection, especially severe course, pneumonia and even death. This is important to realize. MRNA vaccines that are used for this were tested in pre-clinical and clinical trials. There is no negative impact on either the fetus or the health condition of pregnant women. Studies showed that there are antibodies found in the intrauterine fetus. The same way, vaccination can provide antibodies against coronavirus in a newborn baby during breastfeeding,” said Vyacheslav Lokshin, a gynecologist, fertility specialist, scientist.

Vyacheslav Lokshin noted that optimal term for vaccination is from the 16th to 37th week of pregnancy. According to the expert, it is event better to immunize before getting pregnant to protect yourself and the child in the first trimester. Meanwhile, according to the Kazakh Health Ministry, 9,000 nursing women and only 4,600 pregnant women were vaccinated with the US-made Pfizer vaccine.
