Almaty hosts festival dedicated to Kazakh opera singer Alibek Dnishev

A theater festival dedicated to the anniversary of People’s Artist of the USSR and laureate of state awards Alibek Dnishev kicked off in Almaty with Tchaikovsy’s opera Eugene Onegin. This choice was made because Dnishev used to act as Lensky, which is one of the key characters in the play.

It’s kind of a classic art nouveau, which features video graphics and lighting solutions, projections and decorations that are constantly changing during the performance. That gives an effect of complete immersion in the atmosphere of the Pushkin village and even the scent of an apple orchard.

“The new play is peculiar and interesting. I’ve watched a lot of different plays, but this one has some uniqueness about it. It features videos, interesting lighting solutions and changing decorations. It also has that novelty that impresses audiences and even soloists. We must teach the younger generation by the example of such classics,” said Shakhimardan Abilov, Artistic Director at the Abai Kazakh State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet.

The concert of romances and war songs will also be held as part of the festival. A new version of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera ‘La Traviata’ will also be presented. The closing event of this festival will be the Gala Concert, which includes arias from opera performances of the Golden Fund of Cultural Heritage. The festival was organized by the Abai Kazakh State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet. The entrance will be carried out through the mobile application Ashyq.
