Kazakhstan marks the 100th anniversary of the legendary Roza Baglanova this year. An outstanding opera and pop singer of the 20th century made a significant contribution to the national art. An exclusive sculpture of the People’s Artist of the USSR and Kazakhstan was presented in Nur-Sultan the day before.

“I can say that this is totally, 100 percent similar. When I saw it for the first time, I just gasped, my wife and children, her grandchildren shed tears. We added here some of her personal jewelry, accessories, handkerchiefs, earrings. It’s just perfect,” Tazhen Baglanov, Roza Baglanova’s son said. “First things first, she was my mother. I did not imagine her to be a person of such magnitude. I understood this when I got older. When you realize and understand all this over the years, sometimes you return to that time and think, of course, maybe you would have acted differently in this or that situation”.

In 2021, UNESCO adopted the calendar of observances for 2022-2023. The list also included the 100th anniversary of Roza Baglanova. A cycle of festive events starts in Kazakhstan for the celebration. Thus, the Roza Baglanova International Vocal Competition will be held in the capital. Concerts are planned to take place in Kyzylorda, Almaty and Moscow cities. The anniversary will also be celebrated at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
