Kazakh scientist develops new technology for emissions-free soda ash production

How to produce emission-free soda ash? A scientist from Karagandy came up with a solution. Kalkaman Zhumashev has been developing a new technology for eight years. It does not require the use of limestone, therefore emissions are excluded. The reduction of energy-intensive processes can decrease the cost price of sodium carbonate. The scientist patented his invention and received an international copyright certificate. Pavlodar producers expressed their interest in the invention. They are ready to conduct pilot tests, and if effective to implement it in the production. Soda ash is widely used in the metallurgical industry, and its demand in Kazakhstan is over 400,000 tonnes per year. This product is imported to the country from abroad.

“The old technology involves emissions of 10 cubic meters of chloride solution for each tonne of sodium produced. About one tonne of CO2 is emitted from each tonne. Now, the entire world is fighting against it. Due to the fact that environmentalists were opposed to the old technology, they had to search for a new one, which is more eco-friendly. The invention I offered fully meets all of these requirements,” said Zhumashev, an Engineering PhD holder.
