K.Tokayev: trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Russia reaches US$25 billion

A dynamic growth of relations between Kazakhstan and Russia can be observed in the sphere of trade and economics. There are 20 joint projects at various stages of development worth US$4 billion in such industries as mechanical engineering, metallurgy, and the chemical industry. This was announced during the meeting between Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Vladimir Putin in Kremlin, where the presidents discussed topical issues of bilateral relations.

“Certainly, there is no reason to be disappointed with the dynamics of trade, economic cooperation and political interaction between our countries. Trade turnover reached US$25 billion. For Kazakhstan, Russia is the main partner in the sphere of trade and economics. Therefore, the tasks that I set before our Government are not only to maintain this dynamics and the scale of trade and investment, but also to increase it, despite all the difficulties arising from the current geopolitical realities. The main officials of the Government of Kazakhstan responsible for this bloc, led by the First Deputy Prime Minister have come here with me. They had a very productive meeting. They had a task to work with the Russian Government in order to achieve concrete practical results,” said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan.

“In general, everything is developing well. Last year, trade turnover grew by 34 percent. Russian companies have invested US$17 billion in the economy of Kazakhstan. The situation as a whole is developing, despite today's well-known and understandable difficulties,” said Vladimir Putin, President of Russia.

The parties agreed to discuss bilateral economic issues at the Interregional Forum, which will be held this fall in Orenburg. The Kazakh President also accepted the invitation of the President of Russia to visit the St. Petersburg Economic Forum in June. A little later, the government delegation of Kazakhstan also plans to go to a large industrial exhibition in Yekaterinburg.
