Kazakhstan’s foreign trade turnover more than doubles in January-February

Foreign trade turnover of Kazakhstan grew by more than half over January-February of this year, exceeding US$18 billion. Export figures increased as well, amounting to 71.5 percent, which in monetary terms is a little over US$12 billion. Kazakh Minister of National Economy Alibek Kuantyrov spoke about the results of social and economic development over three months of this year at a government meeting. He outlined the industries that showed the most positive dynamics. These are transport and warehousing, construction and trade, water supply, information and communication, agriculture, and, of course, mining and manufacturing industries.

“The manufacturing industry maintains a steady growth trend. The production volume grew by 6.5 percent in January to March this year. Positive dynamics is observed in all regions. The largest increase is seen in the city of Almaty, as well as in North Kazakhstan and Atyrau regions. The production volume in the mining industry increased by 6.1 percent. During the aforementioned period, the construction sector showed high growth rates, and the volume of completed construction work grew by 8.6 percent,” said Alibek Kuantyrov, Kazakh Minister of National Economy.

The construction industry this year again demonstrated its investment attractiveness. Investments in this sector more than doubled. The education industry showed the same picture. In terms of regions, the minister noted, the top three of investment attractive areas included the city of Shymkent, as well as Akmola and Pavlodar regions.
