Kazakhstan to increase share of renewable energy

By 2030, Kazakhstan will increase the share of renewable and alternative energy sources in electricity generation by 15 percent. To date, about 2,000 megawatts of RES are in operation. According to data from the Kazakh Energy Ministry, there are 123 active renewable energy facilities in the country. This number will increase significantly and exceed 180 in the next four years. About one trillion tenge (US$2.3 billion) of investments will be attracted for the implementation of the projects for the development of alternative energy. Overall, in order to increase the share of renewable energy sources, the relevant ministry intends to hold annual auctions for the selection of efficient projects, introduce technical requirements for market participants, and support major green energy projects.
