Fish-breeding enterprises increase production volumes

State preferences contributed to the development of fisheries in Almaty region, believes entrepreneur Marlen Tursynali. He has been breeding trout for about ten years in the coastal areas of the Lake Issyk. His enterprise produces more than 200 tonnes of this fish every year.

“It has become much easier to work now. We have an opportunity to open fish-breeding enterprises in the coastal areas. That’s the main thing. Also, the issue of subsidizing the costs of building such farms will soon be positively resolved. This is a good incentive for the industry’s development,” said Marlen Tursynali, fish farmer.

The fishery committee of the region developed a special program and plans to catch 3,700 tonnes of commercial fish in the area in 2021. Next year this indicator should amount 6,000 tonnes.

“Currently, subsidies are being considered for the purchase of fry up to 50 percent, and feed up to 30 percent. In addition, the country is considering additional benefits,” said Almat Suyubayev, Chief of Inspectorate.

25 large fish-breeding enterprises are operating in Almaty region. One of the farms in Kapshagai plans to produce up to 10,000 tonnes of African catfish every year. 60 percent of products are expected to be exported.
