This day is the day of remembrance of one of the most tragic pages in the history of Kazakhstan. This day will always remind of the heroism and tragedy of Kazakh citizens who innocently suffered for the freedom and sovereignty of their country. This was said by historians during an international project, which took place in the Kazakh capital. The event presented the updated information on the victims of the famine and persecution that resulted in the death of millions of people. These studies will continue, historians assured.

“Many historians interpret versions differently. In total, about two million Kazakhs died during the period of famine. Another one million became refugees. I think we still have time to calculate the exact number of victims. In general, the history of the 20th century was very tragic for the Kazakhs. In Soviet times, we lost half of the native population,” said Arailym Mussagaliyeva, Doctor of Historical Sciences.
