The OSCE Chairman-in-Office Zbigniew Rau called Kazakhstan’s political reforms ambitious. The upcoming referendum is a prime example. Rau is currently on an official visit to Kazakhstan. The challenges of the international agenda, measures to restore confidence and security in the region in the context of geopolitical tensions were discussed at meetings with Kazakh representatives.

“The reform agenda proposed by the President of Kazakhstan at all its stages takes up highly important improvements related to human rights, civil liberties and institutional responsibilities being in accordance with OSCE’s commitment. An actual and prominent example is the amendments to the constitution put to a national referendum that will take place this Sunday. Last but not least, I suppose, good governance is also something that we discuss at length. Because good governance is the institution and also the idea that brings the citizens together, and empowers them and expects from them the responsibility for the common good, the common good that is institutionalized by the state,” said Zbigniew Rau, OSCE Chairman-in-Office.
